A Chinese restaurant is gaining popularity by introducing seasoned skewers without food such as meat or seafood.
According to foreign media such as Hong Kong's South China Morning Post (SCMP), a barbecue restaurant in Hunan Province, China, sells 50 spicy seasoned bamboo skewers for 10 yuan (about 2,000 won).
Bamboo skewers are seasoned with green onions and red pepper powder, and are lightly grilled and served.
A video showing a chef from Hunan Province grilling bamboo skewers seasoned with green onions and red pepper powder has gone viral with more than 600,000 "likes."
Ma, who developed the dish, said, "I want to make customers appreciate the taste, not just the food," revealing the birth story of bamboo skewer dishes.
Ma, who said it was made for women, said, "This skewer has few calories, so female customers can enjoy food without worrying about gaining weight."
After the dish went viral, it is sold for more than 100 servings a day on average, and the number of customers has increased by more than 30%.
If 50 skewers are sold for 10 yuan, the remaining net profit is reported to be 4-5 yuan (about 1,000 won).
One customer said, "It's good to enjoy bamboo skewers with mustard sauce added during your diet."
When some netizens raised concerns about the possibility of reusing bamboo skewers, Ma stressed that "all skewers are disposable," and said, "We plan to develop more creative dishes."
Netizens said, "Lick the instant ramen soup at home to save money," "It's amazing that someone orders something like this," and "I'm curious about the taste." I want to go there once," the response was mixed.
